NZ Brushtail Possum Skull

NZ Brushtail Possum Skull

A brushtail possum skull (NZ), ready to become a unique addition to any natural history collection, curiosity cabinet, or educational display.

Although native to Australia, the common brushtail possum was introduced to New Zealand in the 1850s to establish a fur trade. With no natural predators and abundant food, their population rapidly expanded into the tens of millions. Today, possums are considered one of New Zealand's most destructive invasive mammals, causing widespread damage to native forests by feeding on leaves, flowers, fruit, and young shoots. They also prey on the eggs and chicks of native birds and compete with other wildlife for food and habitat. These skulls are sourced from NZ pest control.

Approximate Size: 9–11 cm long

Each skull is a genuine natural specimen, so no two are exactly alike. Variations in size, shape, tooth wear, and natural markings are all part of what makes every piece unique.

These specimens are legally imported from New Zealand, where possums are classified as an invasive pest species and are actively controlled to help protect native ecosystems. As imported specimens, they are legal to own in Australia.
