The tanuki (Nyctereutes procyonoides) is an Asian canid with distinctive cranial features and prominent canines adapted or an omnivorous diet. Tanukis in Japanese mythology are said to be tricksters and shape changers, so this is a neat skull to add to any collection!
 
Size: Roughly 14 x 7 cm (similar in size to a red fox)
 
Every skull is slightly different so there may be minor variation from the display photo. As these are from real animals, there also may be natural wear to teeth and other parts as well as size differences. As with all natural specimens, minor asymmetries and variations are normal and reflect individual biology and life rather than flaw.
